Out-of-office autoreplies without reply storms

Anyone who has ever set up an autoresponder knows the risk: two auto-replying mailboxes can end up answering each other back and forth indefinitely, and even without a full loop, a busy sender can end up getting the same out-of-office notice a dozen times in one afternoon.

MSH Postfix Milter’s autoresponder rules include built-in protection for exactly this. You set a limit on how many times an autoreply can be sent to the same recipient within a given period, minute, hour, day or week, and the application simply will not send another one once that limit is reached.

One notice is usually enough

A common setup sends at most one autoreply per sender per day for a vacation notice, so a colleague emailing multiple times only gets reminded once. A support mailbox might instead allow one reminder every two days, enough to keep people informed without flooding their inbox with duplicates of the same message.
